Who will Brandon Vera fight on his ONE FC debut?

Brandon Vera’s ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) debut has been set for 5 December at ONE FC: WARRIOR’S WAY which will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, The Philippines.

The 36-year-old Fil-Am superstar is scheduled to fight on the blockbuster card that sees out the year, but his opponent has not been determined yet.

There are two notable fighters who are possibly lined up to take the spot opposite Vera in the cage – James McSweeney and Chi Lewis Parry.

Both Parry and McSweeney are coming off wins inside the ONE FC cage, with McSweeney stringing together two straight victories with an impressive first-round knockout of Australian heavyweight prospect Chris Lokteff as well as knocking out former HEAT heavyweight champion Cristiano Kaminishi in a light heavyweight battle.

There is no denying that McSweeney is on best form, however, that last fight was at light heavyweight, so it remains to be seen which division the striker will now call home.

The Englishman has gone on the record saying that he will fight in either division and revealed he is eying a shot at both the light heavyweight and heavyweight world titles.

Going by his last fight, it makes sense for McSweeney to continue at the 205 lbs weight class, where he is likely to meet world-class wrestler Jake Butler soon, but recent activity on social media has suggested otherwise.

Likewise, Parry has shown what he is capable of when he finished Muay Thai world champion Alain Ngalani with strikes in the first round of their rematch after a No Contest on their first meeting.

Keeping his undefeated status, Parry would certainly pose as the bigger statement for Vera’s much anticipated debut.

Fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions on who ONE FC should match with Vera, and they are divided on who they would like to see Vera face first.

Parry however, appears to have the edge, with more fans interested in seeing the ‘Chopper’ square off with ‘The Truth’.

During a Q&A hosted on Facebook by ONE FC CEO Victor Cui, fans seemed to be leaning towards Parry:

To the delight of fans, Parry has also started his own campaign on social media to rally support for a fight against Vera.

No hints have come from ONE FC as everyone eagerly anticipates the announcement of Vera’s opponent on his debut.

This should come in the next few weeks and if the fans are anything to go by, we should see the square-off between Vera and Parry.

Well, regardless of who the opponent is, the fans at Mall of Asia Arena are definitely going to be in for a hell of show when “The Truth” makes his return.
