Liam Etebar vs Shane Gunfield Title Fight set for BCMMA 8: September 27th Essex

liam sept 27th fight

We recently caught up with hot young prospect Liam Etebar where we found out more about him, how he got into MMA and his goals for the future.  At the time of that interview, Liam had no confirmed plans of any match-ups but in the last few days, he has been matched on BCMMA 8 in Colchester on September 27th.  Not only is he matched against Shane Gunfield but the two will be fighting it out for the Title.

We spoke to Liam to find out how he is feeling about his opponent, how camp is going and we also got a few words from BCMMA Promoter Christopher Cook, Liam’s Manager Sid at Mogul Management and even a few words from his opponent Shane.

After nearly two years out of the cage due to injury, Liam is excited to be getting back in there.

“I am really looking forward to getting back in the cage; it has been a long time coming”.

Shane Gunfield has a record of 2-1 so Liam has slightly more cage experience so we wondered if he felt this would work in his favour and what he actually knows about Shane and how he is preparing for him.

“I will use my experience to my advantage but it is a fight at the end of the day and experience doesn’t always matter.  Shane seems like an all-round guy.  I am just working on my whole game rather than doing anything specifically”.

With a weight cut to handle, Liam tells us how he deals with his in the week leading up to fight night.

“I follow a strict diet and training regime.  It shouldn’t be too hard making 77kg as I have made 70kg before”.

With none of Liam’s previous five fights going past Round 1, we wondered if the thought of going into the later rounds daunts him and with 2 wins by KO/TKO and 2 by Submission, where does Liam feel he is strongest.

“I am not fussed.  I will be ready to go the distance if I need to but I am a finisher.  If I see an opening then it is game over.  I am strong everywhere, wherever the fight takes place, I am comfortable”.

This is the first time Liam will have fought on BCMMA and September 27th will be the eighth show they have put on.

“I am looking forward to fighting on BCMMA.  I have watched a few videos of the show and it looks like it is a really good show”.

Christopher Cook, Promoter of BCMMA is looking forward to the night and tells us his thoughts on the match-up between Liam and Shane.

“BCMMA 8 is looking like a fantastic show and what better way to close the night with two great talented future prospects in Liam Etebar and Shane Gunfield going all out for our BCMMA Welterweight Title.  This is exactly what the show is about, giving the next generation of young pro athletes the platform to showcase their skills.  It is shaping up to be an explosive main event and has certainly got a lot of people talking on social media”.

Liam is ready to take home the BCMMA Title to add to the two he already holds.

“It feels good to be going for the Title and I am grateful for the opportunity.  I am looking forward to getting my hands on another Title”.

Sid at Mogul Management is excited to see Liam back and had this to say about his athlete.

“I am looking forward to seeing Liam back in action at BCMMA.  It will be the first time I have had any of my athletes on the show and so far dealings with them have been great.  Liam is up against a tough opponent in Shane and the winner will definitely deserve the title.  I can’t wait for this one”.

We asked Shane Gunfield how he sees the fight going and what he thinks of Liam.

“I don’t know much about Liam but I am confident as I have the best team and coaches behind me.  I am looking forward to having a war on September 27th and ultimately taking that belt home”.

Liam has other ideas of how this is going to play out.

“I am just going to go in there and get the win.  A KO would be nice though”!

This match-up has certainly got a lot of people excited and it would be silly to miss this one as it is sounding like an all-out war is on the cards.  All that is left to do is thank Liam for his time and leave him to say his thanks.

“Thanks to my team 1st Generation, Tolly Plested, Paul Morgan, Cutting Edge Sports Nutrition and to Mogul Management”.
