On the 19th May 2017, Alex ‘Da Kid’ Lohore is set to make his return to the cage for the world renowned MMA promotion, Bellator.
Following on from last year’s Bellator 158, the highly anticipated Bellator 179 will be the promotions second venture into London and will take place at the famous Wembley Arena, featuring a stacked card of exciting fights from top to bottom in what is sure to be a sell-out.
Riding an impressive 7 fight win streak against some of the top competition in Europe, Alex “Da Kid” Lohore will be one of the top fighters on the Bellator 179 London card in what is set to be an explosive bout against the experienced, Dan ‘Vinni’ Edwards. This will be Alex’s second consecutive fight for the promotion after his impressive 2nd round submission victory over the highly regarded and former UFC fighter, Colin “The Freakshow” Fletcher in February of this year. As he approaches the prime of his career, the 27 year old already boasts a near perfect record of 11-1 and has built a reputation off the back of his exciting and explosive style, finishing the majority of his fights via TKO in the early rounds.
The current UCMMA and FSC Welterweight Champion, who also sits at the top of the welter weight division for Bamma will now be looking to add to his recent string of victories with a win over Dan Edwards and will be hoping to use this opportunity as a stepping stone on his quest for a Welterweight World Title Shot. A win for Lohore may also set up a highly anticipated match up against his fellow Welterweight rival, Nathan Jones who is also competing on the Bellator 179 undercard against Umer Kayani. In recent months, it felt inevitable that we would see the two square off after Jones defeated Walter Gahadza and Lohore bested Colin Fletcher. A win for both fighters on May 19th will surely bring their collision course to an epic conclusion before the year is out.
As for Edwards, he ended 2016 on a high with two impressive victories by way of stoppage over Michael Brown and Vaso Bakocevic. The 29 year old will be aware that a win over Lohore will be a huge step in his resurging career. One thing is for certain, the clash between Lohore and Edwards is expected to be a spectacular bout with huge stakes on the line for both men.
Lohore started his Bellator fight camp at the world famous Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand and as the fight draws closer, he has since returned to the UK to conclude his training camp at his usual home at the New Wave Academy where he has perfected the skills of his craft since he started competing in MMA. Since New Wave have opened a new training centre in South London, Alex recently commented that he has enhanced his training and has reaped the rewards from doing so in the gym. The well rounded and versatile fighter prides himself on having no particular style and feels that he is constantly developing day by day and with nine of his victories having come inside the distance; it’s hard to say otherwise. As his stock continues to rise, he will surely be excited to showcase his recent improvements on the international stage in his second Bellator appearance come May 19th.
What will surely be an exciting bout, tune in and watch the fight live and free on Spike TV UK and see if the top welterweight prospect can add another impressive victory on his way to becoming a World Champion.
